Looking to learn? Looking to play? Looking to work? Jobs available!

Studio42 is always looking for people who are hard workers and want to work hard. Do you think you have what it takes to work as a professional musician? We work with world-class musicians and performers. Well, then read on and see if you would like to join the band!

Qualifying personel will have unique access to our equipment and engineer, making available options you never had before and at much better rates than available to the general public. You're working with a top engineer with a professional sound system, not a weekend warrior who can get things loud.

Band

Completing a band is a necessity. We can hire an entire band or just the instruments needed to round out an already assembled group. Being open-minded is a necessity for not only Studio42, but also for the musicians as well. If you or your band are interested, please let us know. What we are looking for is the following:
  • Keyboardists
  • Bass
  • Electric Guitar(s)
  • Drums, full acoustic prefered, full electric and electric/acoustic hybrid OK.
  • Male and Female Lead/Feature Vocalists
  • Optional Percussionists
  • Will work with ethnic instruments as required.
  • Complete and existing bands are never a problem and are prefered

We are looking for several types of musicians:

  • In the case of existing bands, we're interested in all styles, rock, pop, techno, dance, oldies, whatever. If your style isn't mentioned, it just means it wasn't mentioned here. We work with all bands in all styles.
  • Musicians that know Vietnamese standards. One of our main customers are Vietnamese wedding receptions. Knowing the language and the music is a strength. However, we are looking expand and cover non-Vietnamese events as well.
  • Musicians who are well rounded and can play nearly anything.
    • Drummers should be well versed in standard rock, pop, country, jazz music and beats, as well as other standards such as Afro-Cuban and popular dance rhythms such as samba, mambo, cha-cha, tango and so on.
    • Keyboardists and guitarists should be equally versed or else be familiar with a fake-book and transposition for such cases.
    • A willingness to learn is a very favorable attribute and goes a long way in the decision process.
    • Ability to read sheet music is a plus but not a requirement.
    • Must be willing to work with other musicians and able to follow instructions.
    • The main issue is that we are looking for well rounded musicians who learn fast and are willing to work hard.
We will not make decisions based on your ethnic background. If you audition and we like you, we would like to have you available for events we do.

All musicians must have their own equipment. We do have some minor exceptions should you choose to use our equipment. We have a full keyboard rig consisting of four keyboards, 5 synth modules and full pedals. We have a very small bass rig consisting of a 4-string Fender P-Bass and a Fender Rad Bass 10" speaker, 35-watt combo amp. We also have a full electronic drum set with a Roland Octapad II Pad 80, 3 drum brains and a drum machine. Bass, keyboards and drums can use our equipment. We will supply microphones for all vocalists either via head-worn wireless units, hand-held wireless systems or wired microphones, or you can bring your own wired microphone. For Guitar, we hav aquired a small Marshall MG15DFX, 15-watt, 8" combo amp.

All musicians are required to have their equipment in full functioning order. This includes all cables, jacks and interconnects, pickups, strings, valves, bows, sticks and reeds as applicable.

  • Vocalists do not need to bring any microphones. For those choosing to go wireless, we have 10 channels of wireless microphones with handhelds and 4 with optional bodypacks and headworn mics. For those who do have a favorite microphone, please ensure it is suitable for hand-held usage. Dynamic and condenser microphones are OK, please know your model number and polar pattern. Due to the wide variance in wireless systems, we do not allow outside wireless sytems into our sound system. What may work well in a small practice environment or a home often does not work well for a show. Inexpensive systems have dropout and signal integrity issues that will show up in a live event. Let us worry about wireless issues by having you use our wireless systems. We can also adapt your handheld dynamic for wireless for use with our system. Also, with the rulings by the FCC in regards to the 700Mhz band, as of June 12, 2010, your equipment may possibly be illegal to operate!!
  • Guitar players are required to have some sort of stage system(amp/speaker combination), we recommended a 12" single driver system for guitar, as this typically provides the best results when close-mic'ed. SansAmp and other speaker-emulation systems/devices are also acceptable, but we prefer to mic the cabinet. Acoustic guitar players are expected to have an appropriate pickup system installed into their guitar, stage sytem/amplification/emulation system optional. All guitar players should carry spare sets of strings and should have their instrument set up appropriately for their preferred string guage by a qualified luthier. Please have all cables necessary to use your guitar, which includes a 1/4" cable, preferably 10-feet or longer and any additional cables for pedals and effects. If using a wireless system, please have fresh batteries for your transmitter. Please have your own tuner and instrument stand. Please have your own power strip or power system for your pedals and/or pedal board.
  • Bass is not required to have a stage system but is strongly recommended and is a requirement in a mic'ed situation. We do strongly recommend a 4X10 enclosure that is suitably powered for those requiring an on-stage system. Bass should carry spare sets of strings. Please have all cables necessary to use your bass, which includes a 1/4" cable, preferably 10-feet or longer and any additional cables for pedals and effects. If you have a prefered DI box, we can use that. If using a wireless system, please have fresh batteries for your transmitter. VHF systems work better for bass. Please have your own tuner and instrument stand.
Special note for bass players and guitar players with active pickups, especially EMG pick-ups in guitars:
Have a fresh battery always available. Check your manual to see recommendations as to battery types and battery life estimates. Ensure your active pickups are not overdriving your stage equipment inputs.
  • Keyboards do not need a stage amplifier/mixer, although a mixer is highly recommended if using more than two keyboards and/or more than two outputs. We have plenty of direct boxes.
  • Drummers should be well prepared. All acoustic and hybrid drummers should know how to change heads and tune their drums as well as set-up their hardware. It is suggested that drummers have replacement heads and spare sets of sticks available just in case something should break. It is strongly recommended that kick/bass drums have a hole of at least 4-8 inches in diameter cut into the batter head to facilitate microphone placement. Kick/bass drums should also be well damped, and we suggest dampening toms as well. We strongly suggest cases for drums and cymbals to protect them during transport. Hybrid and all electric drummers should already have their kits set up and able to provide multiple audio signal outputs to the main mix position. We suggest: kick, snare, hat, toms(stereo OK, prefer full break-out), auxilliary percussion(stereo OK, full break-out OK), Overheads(stereo OK, full break-out OK). We have plenty of direct boxes. Drummers should bring their own drum stool and drum carpet.

We can and will provide full monitoring for all musicians, which is not to be confused with the stage systems. Those providing their own equipment will be required to set up and tear down their own gear only. It would be nice if you could help the crew with general setup and any other tasks that need to be done.

In the case of pre-existing bands, alternatively, you can hire us. Why buy a sound system when you can hire us instead. We made the sound system investment so you don't have to. If you want to work with us, then we want to work with you. You will get one of the top engineers in the area and you can not get a better deal than that.

You must be able to provide your own transportation to and from the event and be there when the sound company arrives. Preferably, you should also be at least of driving age, over 21 prefered, over 18 is OK.

To schedule an interview and audition, please call Studio42 or fill in this form. Ability to play multilple instruments and/or sing a definate bonus. We do allow band members to be crew and crew members to be in the band.
